Christmas is about family, helping others, and most important honoring whatever beliefs we hold close.
That’s why making it a financially stressful time is a terrible thing.
Here’s a couple tips on how to overcome it from our Free Facebook Group Community:
- “Set a limit how much you will spend on each person. Look for deals throughout the year. I find Black Friday deals are usually not that Big of a deal anyway. Buy decorations after Christmas for the next year. Homemade gifts show just as much love as an expensive gift. Cute service coupons are an option. Focus on the reason of the Season.” – Marie-Luise
2. “Buy Christmas decorations NEXT year for discounts. Don’t feel like you need to spend money on someone to show them you love them, be smart with gifts.” – Ben
3. “Set a budget for all the good service things that come around this time of year! Once we spend it, we choose to say no to other options. Otherwise I end up contributing to every good cause (and there are a lot!!) and spend a lot of money. Between the Christmas spirit and the Salvation Army ringers, our finances don’t stand a chance!” – Lindsey
4. “Buying brand new items is not any better than nicely used things. Especially for kids toys.” – Payton
5. “I have a gift amount set for family friends. What I do is I go to Costco and I get the popcornopolis bag when it’s on sale for five bucks then I go to the dollar tree and buy a cute little tin, fill it with popcorn. One bag of popcorn fills three tins. Get the martinellis 4 pack on sale for $6.48 and give one each to friends with popcorn. Boom nice gift for family friend under $5 each when you do the math.” -Susan
6. “We’ve convinced our family to draw names instead of giving gifts to all of our siblings. It’s a lot less stress and money, and we still get to buy a nice, personalized gift for someone.” -Rebecca
7. “Figure out your Christmas budget, and then set a monthly auto withdrawal into an account you don’t see regularly. That way when October or November rolls around, you’ve got all of your money and don’t have to pull from anywhere.” – Braden
Great ideas gang.
