- We do a live Nativity every year on Christmas Eve. Last year we didn’t travel anywhere because Lucy was just a little thing, so we did an impromptu one for our Family on Marco Polo. It’s pretty hilarious. Give it a minute for us to warm up.
2. One of the challenges you face as a married couple is picking which traditions from which family you’re going to bring into your newly formed one! One of the traditions we brought from Mikayla’s family is wrapping the entry way to the room where the presents are on Christmas morning. That way you have to burst through the wrapping paper to get to the gifts! It’s actually really fun. (Unless you have 6 younger siblings you run in before you and there is no paper left by the time you get there.)
3. Both of us served missions in Germany for our church. Because of that we institute as much German tradition into Christmas as possible. Germans actually go pretty hard on Christmas. They open gifts on Christmas Eve, and then celebrate for a full 2 days after that. (We’ve never been so stuffed in our lives). One of the ways we celebrate the German way is by making Schnitzel on Christmas Eve. Here is a fantastic Schnitzel recipe you should try.
Regardless of how you celebrate Christmas or this Holiday Season, find a way to build tradition into it! It will make the whole season more enjoyable and memorable for your family. What could make you feel happier at Christmas time then memories, joy, and laughter anyway?
